Soul Brother follows up their popular Groove On Down with the aptly titled
Groove On Down Vol. 2. There are some real gems contained on here. OK,
some of them have been available on other compilations before but no doubt they
are long-deleted and therefore as in demand as ever. Once a good tune always a
good tune.
I knew that this was an essential purchase simply due to the fact that "Our Love
Will Always Shine" by Ozone was included. I love this track beyond words,
and it is a Motown gem from the 80s that deserves greater recognition. A quality
stepper which is also a timeless classic.
Talking of timeless classics, look no further than the starter track, "Still In Love".
This monster dancer is a new one on me and was released by Rose Royce back in
1981. The opening sequence is beautiful, then it slowly builds into incessant drums
and swirling strings. What a classy song. I for one am glad to now own this wonderful
track. Another great boogie tune is the Whatnauts classic "Love Is On The way"
and this really is the icing on the cake.
However there is more to tempt you into parting with your hard-earned dosh. 1982
saw the release of Brooklyn Express’ cover of the Eddie Kendricks’
classic "Girl You Need A Change Of Mind". This is for my money the best cover of
this song that I have heard and having this on CD now means I won’t have to dig
out my LP of "Boogie Tunes II". Nice to see Active Force on here, and to
remind you that their album has also been re-released by the good folks at
Vinyl Masterpiece.
The closing cut comes courtesy of Easy Street Records: "Share The Night" by
World Premiere will always be a favourite of mine. It is a haunting,
powerful, drum led groove that builds up to a climax where the vocals of this
fantastic quartet faze in and out fantasically. Love those synths, too! Another
essential addition to your collection.
