The preserve of those who have been willing to pay silly prices on the ludicrous "Rare Groove" scene, this 1978 album now gets the CD release it deserves. As I always say, quality never dates or tires, and it matters not that this album is heading for 30 years old. To be honest, I never thought it was a fantastic album, but it was essential for the cuts that mattered. Jean'’ voice is just amazing. She is, of course, better known for her Motown work with the Supremes in the '70s especially "Nathan Jones", "Bad Weather", "Stoned Love" and "Up The Ladder To The Roof". All great songs from this great Lady. Talking of GREAT songs check the cover of "Rising Cost Of Love". This is a fantastic version … the bongos are in full flow and the strings swirl around with wanton abandon. You really cannot get better than this. It does sound to me, though, that this album has been taken from vinyl -– unless my ears are playing me up. "Change Up" classily continues with a more downtempo feel, allowing us to get the full capability of what this great Lady can do. It's warming to hear her on the new Preston Glass album sounding as great as ever, too (review to come!) Fans of the highly manufactured and unoriginal teenybopper artist Terri Walker will recognise the tune "How Can You Live Without Love" from her having ripped it off for her latest churnage. Best keep to the real artist and the real music in all seriousness. Accept no cheap imitation. "No Limit" is another choice track and makes the album an essential purchase. This is a great dancer and ought to get the old juices flowing. We can always trust Soul Brother to come up with the goods, so pop along or log in and secure yourself a copy.
