Chanté Moore is precisely as fresh and exciting vocally as is her outlooks.
You may already have noticed her distinctive sweet soprano on the recent
(and surprisingly good) set by El DeBarge or on background vocals of
Everette Harp's debut. The ultimate breakthrough for her should be,
though, the single Love's Taken Over: a brilliant mid pacer combining
an irresistible, heavy bassline with a seductive soul tune.
The song is written by Chant‚ together with producer Simon Law and in the
background we find the same team that was responsible for J.T Taylor's
Long Hot Summer Night and Feel the Need.
Love's Taken Over - actually the only Simon Law production on the album -
both opens and closes (Quiet Storm Mix without the beat and bass) Moore's debut album
Precious. Between the two versions we have ten quite impressive tunes,
mostly gently atmospheric ballads and peacefully flowing mid pacers with real
musicians. Keith Washington sounds typically passionate on a ballad duet
Candlelight & You, the other highlights being the sensual ballad Sexy Thang
and the subtly flowing title ballad. The Be Be Winans contribution Because
Your Mine sounds surprisingly like some Will Downing
arrangements in the near past.
George Duke has produced most of the tracks, and luckily there's now
much more life in the background than on the recent Eugene Wilde CD with
Kirk Whalum, Stanley Clarke, Paul Jackson Jr., Freddy Washington and
Everette Harp giving musical support. Very stylish throughout, although I
couldn't hear any real jewels among the ballads. A fine debut and certainly
different from the usual predictable mainstream production
