Songbook Volume One
(US Interscope CD, 1997)
My, My, My - Seven Whole Days - Whip Appeal - For The Cool In You - Two Occasions - Can We Talk - Soon As I Get Home - You're Making Me High - All In Good Time - Exhale (Shoop Shoop) - I Love You Babe

WOW!!! This album is a selection of quality cover versions that serve as a tribute to the one and only Babyface. Now, do not let this put you off as I can assure you that these guys have taken some rather standard compositions and have interpreted them as their own. The result is simply spellbinding.

I have to say that in my humble opinion I never thought that anyone could better Johnny Gill's My My My but, boy, the Whispers claim this song with such force and gusto that one wonders if it had originally been written for them all along! I would say that this version is just MONSTER.

Furthermore, the magnificence continues with their interpretations of many other songs such as the drop-dead KILLER Two Occasions which seriously wipes the floor with The Deele's original! I cannot applaud this track loud enough. Seven Whole Days is of a similar fashion as is the blinding All In Good Time. I am playing these particular tracks to death!!!

Even the poppy Exhale (Shoop Shoop) is given the lavish treatment, and turns a rather dull pop-orientated cut into an acceptable track. DO NOT OVERLOOK THIS ALBUM.
