RCA (1981) reissue by Funky Town Grooves (USA, 2011)
I'll Be Your Pleasure - Inside Of Me - Make It With You - You Are The Spice Of My Life - You Can Use It - Ready For Love - Who Said It Was Wrong - You Can Have It All
It wasn't until Funky Town Grooves reissued this album on CD that I had heard this album at all. Knowing that it was released in the halcyon year of 1981 certainly helped in a great way to understanding what this set would sound like. It's a really, really strong set that wins on both dancers and ballads alike. From the thumping dancefloor efforts such as "I'll Be Your Pleasure" and "You Can Have It All" through to sumptuous ballads such as "Inside Of Me" and "You Are The Spice Of My Life" nothing disappoints.
The standout song for me, though, has to be the KILLER "Ready For Love"...this is quality early 80s soul at it's very best...it's songs like this that make me mourn - seriously - for the tripe that passes as soul music today. This slinky, summery groove is one that would beautifully fit the vocal skills of Jean Carn. This song is one I have played over and over and over and over again. Pure class and I cannot thank Tony and the gang at FTG for breathing new life into such beautiful music. Talking of summer, "Inside Of Me" also passes the soulful litmus test with flying colours and the Philly-inspired dancer "You Can Use It" isn't going to disappoint you either. A real gem of an album, and I heartily recommend it.
