Gladys is back and definitely on form with this fine collection of mid-tempo but predominately slow, mellow grooves which for these ears is a pure delight. It's the sort of album that makes you feel good and relaxed if you feel the stresses of the day getting you down! The album starts in good form with the cracking Do You Really Want To Know (What Makes Me Fall In Love) which is a fine soul swayer that gets better and better.
The tempo rises a little with one of this album's highlights namely If I Were Your Woman II, the sort of track that demands that you "groove" a little to it, or at the very least, tap those feet.
The quality continues on through the next two tracks but I have to mention the ballad Love Hurts which I just adore - gets better with every play.
So far, this year has yielded a fair number of albums with the consistency factor let's just say that albums such as this, which are pretty much top notch from start to finish, are fairly rare these days but I personally can't fault any of the tracks contained on the CD. Her voice is the bee's knees. I'm not saying that this album will appeal to everybody, not everyone goes for the listening type of album which, this most definitely is, but if it's the SOUL that floats your boat, then this will be on your CD shelf for sure.

The review by Barry Towler exclusively for RECORD CORNER, which is one of the leading soul shops in the world. The review is not featured in our printed issue.
