  No less than 19 albums handled in three pages of jazz-funk reviews, featuring great new sets by Gato Barbieri, Don Diego and Bob Baldwin. Also, the latest CD's by Joe Sample, Earl Klugh, Boney James, Walter Beasley, Patrice Rushen and Marlena Shaw.
• Upfront Soul
  The summer 1997 was a great time for female vocal soul lovers: excellent new albums by Oleta Adams, Shirley Marshall, Dalia, Phajja, Virtue and Brigette McWilliams followed each other. Only the original funksters Dazz Band manage to break the chain of female soul singers.
