Can you imagine a person who likes both typical American rock dominated by yelling guitars and real deep soul ballads? Well, neither do I! That said, it's hard for me to understand the debut album by Truth Inc.. It's a seven piece group lead by producers Jon Nettlesbey and Terry Coffey, both of whom play keyboards and have earlier produced Miki Howard, Keith Washington, Eugene Wilde, Howard Hewett etc. The CD, just called Truth Inc, opens with three straight rock tracks followed by a couple of boring rock ballads.

So why am I wasting my time reviewing the album, anyway? Because the last four tracks are not just good, they are absolutely splendid soul ballads! The current US single Sex on the Beach re-creates the creamy, acoustic atmosphere of Alexander O'Neal's If You Were Here Tonight. Arguably the peak of the album is Can I Get with You Tonight, surely a future classic. The vocal styling of Derald Conway is truly emotional and the melody line is extremely soulful. Bring Back the Days is from the film soundtrack The Five Heartbeats, although this fine ballad was then credited to U.S. Male. The fourth magnificent ballad is the closing Say You Love Me, leaving once more Conway's soaring vocals room for soulful phrasing.

The remaining tracks, between the rock tracks and soul ballads, are moderate Minneapolis style funkers. With only four fine tracks on the album, I can't honestly recommend it; maybe you should wait for someone to make a four track EP from the good moments...
